Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is a way to monitor and improve the efficiency of your manufacturing processes (i.e. machines, manufacturing cells, assembly lines). OEE reduces complex production problems into simple, intuitive presentation of information and helps you improve your manufacturing process.
Plug-and-Pivot is a simple and practical equipment performance analysis tool which helps you systematically improve your process with an easy, yet powerful user interface that allows the organization of data for effective focusing of corrective efforts, e.g.:
- Does your production have bottlenecks that you are unaware of?
- Is one machine slowing down the entire line?
- Does your equipment have increased productivity that could be easily and inexpensively tapped?
Plug-and-Pivot allows problem areas to be quickly identified to a Station/Part level. It takes the most common and important sources of manufacturing productivity loss and places them into three primary categories: Availability, Performance and Quality.
Availability takes into account Down Time Loss, which includes any events that stop planned production. Examples include equipment failures, material shortages, and changeover time. Plug-and-Pivot's goal is to maximize the amount of available time used for production.
Performance takes into account Speed Loss, which includes any factors that cause the process to operate at less than the maximum possible speed. Examples include machine wear, substandard materials, misfeeds and operator inefficiency (performance efficiency).
Quality takes into account Quality Loss, which includes produced pieces that do not meet quality standards (the proportion of good product made).
This is an overall measure of the effectiveness of your machinery. Using Plug and Pivot, these categories can be acquired and refined to provide an excellent way of assessing where you are and how you can improve.
In any operation the hidden potential for improvement is greater than you may think.
